Of all the Gods in the Hindu mythology, Shiva's name is chanted in the highest esteem. Known as the dev-adi-deva (God of Gods), Shiva is the Lord of Destruction. Shiva Ratri is therefore a day/night penance for the third in the trinity of the supreme Gods in Hindu mythology.

This day is considered to be at par with the Mahakumbhas, at least in matters of Hindu religious significance. People pray, offer milk and water with Bael leaves to the lingam. The importance of this day can be gauged from the fact that people from the North to the South and East to the West of India all bow before Mahadeva.

There are many legends as to why this day is celebrated. The one single thing that is a fact is the unambiguous devotion of the masses to the lord who drank the Halahala (supreme poison) to protect the people.

On this pious day Mahakaal News Management Private Limited and Team Pardaphash wishes all its readers a holy Mahashivratri. Har Har Mahadeva! Jai Mahakaal!
