New Delhi: 15th August, The Independence Day of India is remembered as the day when India got independence from the British rule and India’s birth as a sovereign nation in 1947.

Today, flagship event takes place in Delhi where the Prime Minister of the country hoists the national flag at the Red Fort. The day is observed all over India with flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades and cultural events, as per the reports.

This day each and every citizen of India compulsory remembers the following:
About India

National Flag of India: Horizontal tricolour of deep saffron (kesaria) at the top, white in the middle and dark green at the bottom in equal proportion with a navy-blue wheel which represents the chakra with 24 spokes. National Flag was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India on 22 July 1947.

National Song: Famous song which could be listen at every corner of the country on 15th August i.e. Vande Mataram. This song was composed in Sanskrit by Bankimchandra Chatterji and the english translation was done by Sri Aurobindo.

National Anthem: “Jana-gana-mana” was composed firstly in Bengali by well respected Rabindranath Tagore and then the Hindi version by adopted by Constituent Assembly as the National Anthem of India on 24 January 1950.

State Emblem: Four lions, standing back to back, mounted on an abacus with a frieze carrying sculptures in high relief of an elephant, a galloping horse, a bull and a lion separated by intervening wheels over a bell-shaped lotus. Carved out of a single block of polished sandstone, the Capital is crowned by the Wheel of the Law (Dharma Chakra) .

National Calendar: India’s national calendar is based on the Saka Era, with Chaitra as its first month and a normal year of 365 days and was adopted from 22 March 1957.

National Flower: Lotus (Nelumbo Nucipera Gaertn) is the National Flower of India.

National Bird: The Indian peacock, Pavo cristatus, the national bird of India.

National Animal: Tiger, Panthera tigris is the national animal of India.
