Om Namah Shivaya!!! Shiva, one of the holy trinity along with Vishnu and Brahma, married Parvati on this day and from then the day is marked as ‘Maha Shivaratri’.

Shiva, who saved world from the deadly poison, came out after the churning of ocean (Samudra Manthan). Single drop of poison was enough for annihilation of globe and hence Shiva drunk it to save the earth. Shivratri therefore is also celebrated as a day of thanksgiving to Lord Shiva for protecting us from eradication.
