Safety issues have been pitched earlier too but always in context to some or the other woman but no one ever noticed that 5,111 children disappeared in the city last year, as per the data issued.
And to everyone’s surprise, 1,146 children have already gone missing till April 15 in 2012, as per reports. Situation becomes worse as the data also said that there is no trace of 1,359 of the 5,111 missing children in 2011.
In order to keep a check on the increasing number of missing cases, the ministry reportedly has asked the police commissioners in metro cities to personally review every case and take strict action.
According to a leading website, B. Bhamathi, additional secretary in the ministry, wrote a letter to the chief secretaries and state DGPs. The letter read as, "It requires concerted attention of the central and state governments. As missing children are exposed to high-risk situations, they are vulnerable and fall prey to exploitation, abuse and human trafficking."
