Aamir Khan raises issue of domestic violence on Satyamev Jayate

Mumbai: Aimed at bringing social change in the country, actor-turned host Amair Khan has this time raised the issue of domestic violence in the seventh episode of his TV show Satyamev Jayate.

In the beginning, Aamir questioned the audience about the security of women. He said that females are insecure not in public places but in their homes.

This episode showcased physically and mentally abused women, who challenge their husbands against the physical violence. These women stood defiant even though they represented motherhood and wifehood with due honesty and sincerity.

Aamir revealed that as per the government’s data only 40 percent marriages have experienced domestic violence while the survey-reports of some private organization show that 84 percent marriages have dealt with this.

Renowned author and counsellor Rashmi Anand shared her personal experience with her violet husband. On the other hand social activist Kamla Bhasin disclosed that what makes men abuse or dominate women, the practical attitude of the society that gives authority to males to surpass females.

The 7th episode also showcased Police Officer, Satheesh Balan’s efforts reaped fruits in Haryana and how he was able to set up a shelter home for women in his jurisdiction.

Balan spoke about the presence of shelter homes and protection officers who are appointed to help women looking justice in case of domestic violence.

Shanno, who raised her voice against her violent husband, also appeared on the show. The courageous lady did not let her husband to dominate her. Today she is a cab briver and known as Shanno driver.

Aamir also asked men on sets to define masculinity at the end of the show.
