Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav classifies the deprived population in the state as 'Urban Poor' & 'Rural Poor'. The state government has launched a new housing scheme for the urban poor called 'Aasra'. The scheme will only benefit the poor population living in the cities.
As per the scheme, the poor people will be provided with the houses free of cost. But despite being a good scheme, it turned to be a joke with the poor of the state as it will only benefit the poor who are currently living in cities not in villages or towns.
The start of the scheme has been marked with a full page advertisement in the leading newspapers published in the state. The first ad promoting the free housing scheme for the urban poor has been printed in the April 20 edition.
The advertisement reads that the poor and the deprived population in cities will not be compelled to sleep on the footpath as Akhilesh government has decided to gift them their own houses.
This has been a serious case of diving the state population in two categories. With the launch of such a scheme, the Akhilesh government has ignored the poor population dwelling in small towns and villages.
However, the first stage of the Urban Development Department and State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) run scheme has been initiated from cabinet minister Azam Khan's constituency Rampur where around 120 poor people will be provided with their own houses.
