Asha Bhosle daughter cremated, investigation on to know 'suicide' motive

Mumbai: The last rites of renowned singer Asha Bhosle's daughter Varsha Bhosle, who on Saturday allegedly shot herself, were performed in wee hours at Chandanwadi crematorium in Marine Lines. The 56 year old singer and columnist reportedly suffering from depression took this extreme step at her residence in Prabhu Kunj apartments on posh Peddar Road in South Mumbai. The last rites were attended by Asha Bhosle and eminent personalities from the fraternity.
Varsha Bhosle's alleged three times earlier attempts and finally succeeding with pistol this time raises doubts. The first and foremost question comes in front is that when she was suicidal in nature then how she managed to access a loaded gun. The manner in which the suicide is committed by her do not rule out possibility of any foul play altogether.
According to Krishna Prakash, additional commissioner of police (south), it was yet to be determined whether the Belgian-made Browning patented pistol was licensed and in whose name it was registered.
The police will be recording the family member's statement when they will be back from abroad and will probe the case from depression or a property dispute angle to determine the motive behind the suicide.
Investigations are on to determine the exact cause of her 'suicide'. In her earlier attempts, she took an overdose of sleeping pills and was treated at Mumbai's Bombay hospital and Jaslok hospital in 1998 and 2008. She allegedly made another attempt in 2010.
The police investigations are on to determine her state of mind when she reportedly took this extreme step. The police are in constant touch with Pune Police to closely examine her medical history details.
The police is yet to discover how she accessed firearm and who was its owner.
Her earlier life details show that she had married a sports writer and PR professional and the couple had divorced in 1998.
