Bal Thackeray's tearful last journey begins

Mumbai: The last journey of Bal Thackeray began on Sunday in the presence of thousands of people. The Shiv Sena supremo passed away on Saturday after prolong illness.

According to sources, wrapped in the tricolor, Thackeray's body was taken out of his residence Matoshree in a hearse adorned with flowers.

Reports say that funeral procession was delayed as roads around Matoshree were jam with Thackeray's supporters. His son Uddhav broke down soon after the body was taken out of his house.

As per reports, Thackeray's cortege will first go to Sena Bhavan, the party headquarters in Dadar and then his body will be kept at Shivaji Park for people to pay their last respects.

Security has been tightened as about 20,000 policemen companies of State Reserve Police Force and three contingents of the Rapid Action Force have been deployed.

Suresh Shetty, state protocol minister said that the state government has already announced that Thackeray will be accorded a state funeral.

Bal Thackeray breathed his last on Saturday afternoon

The last rites will be performed at Shivaji Park at 6 pm.
