Bangalore bus strike leaves thousands stranded

Bangalore: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) employees launched an indefinite state-wide strike, on Thursday, leaving behind heavy jams on the road. Commuters in and around Bangalore are severely affected and thousands were left stranded at bus stands, in office and school hours.

The indefinite protest has been launched to put pressure on their demands of pay revision and regularisation of around 33,000 trainee employees working with the four road transport corporations in the State.

Nearly 6000 buses, which are termed as the lifeline of Bangalore, are off roads. Another 8000 buses across the state have stopped commuting.

School and college going students are also affected due to the strike. While, parents are seeking an order to declare holiday for schools, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri said that the government had not yet taken any decision to declare holiday for schools.
