Barfi! sweetens Anurag Basu's Friday

Mumbai: Anurag Basu's Barfi! starring Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D'Cruz opened on a positive note in theatres on Friday. Critics lauded Ranbir for his performance in the film. Although not an earth shattering response, the movie minted a considerable INR 10.5 crore. The filmmakers seem to target multiplex audience as it was released on 1300 plus screens all over the country. Only 300 single screens got to screen the movie shows. The average occupancy on opening day was registered to be 85 to 90 percent.
Barfi! did good business on its opening day. Although morning and matinee show display housefull boards, it is estimated that the collection could have been higher if the night shows went full. The film is expected to increase its business on weekend as oral publicity has made the film a 'must watch' for everyone.
From the day of its first look, Barfi has been in news for all the goods.
Word of mouth are expected to take the film forward as filmmaker Karan Johar tweeted, "I just saw 'Barfi!'...I have never felt more limited, inferior and talentless. Anurag Basu is the god of all filmmakers... his genius is 'Barfi!'."
"Ranbir Kapoor has given the most outstanding performance... he deserves a running ovation! It will be an honour to work with him," he further tweeted.
Johar also heaped praised on Priyanka for her portrayal of an autistic girl.
"Priyanka Chopra is just brilliant as Jhilmil. Superbly nuanced and pitch perfect. Her portrayal lingers long after the film. Well done Ileana (D'Cruz)!!! Superb debut... and Kudos to all at UTV for this masterpiece that defines the barometer of modern cinema," he added.
