Legendary writer Gulzar turns 76

Mumbai: Bollywood industry’s living legend Gulzar is celebrating his 76th birthday today. A creative genius born as Sampooran Singh Kalra went on to rule Indian Bollywood with pen name 'Gulzar' is now a cult figure and is adored by his fans across the world for his all time Bollywood classics and unforgettable songs and poetry.

The man is an institution in himself, hailed for his diversified expertise in all different forms of writing ranging from poetry, to prose and Cinema fields like direction, song writing, script writing.

He has contributed with immortal classics like 'Mere Apney', Aandhi, Achanak, Khushboo, Kinara, Ghar, Mausam, Angoor, Masoom, Machis, Hu Tu Tu and others. He began his career with song Mora Gora Ang le le for 'Bandini' an all time classic by Bimal Roy.

Since then he never looked back and went to give songs which still rule music industry. He has worked with number of music directors but with R D Burman produced numbers of passionate and always hummable songs. Later on, he teamed up with Vishal Bhardwaj and AR Rahman and has given number of hits to the movies like Dil Se, Omkara,

The man is known to have won accolades like Padma Bhushan, the Sahitya Akademi award and a Grammy for (Jai Ho) and number of Filmfare and national awards. His serial like Mirza Ghalib is still being watched.

Some of his popular songs are ‘Tum pukar lo, Tere bina zindagee se koi, Mera kuch samaan tumhare pass.., Dil hoom hoom kare, Phir se aiyo badra bideshi, Tujhse naraaz nahin zindagi, Musafir hoon yaron, Tere bina, Aane wala Pal.., Chaiyya chaiyya, Kajrar re, Beedi Jalei le, and Jai Ho’.
