Chandigarh celebrates Guru Purnima with fervor

Chandigarh: Traditional festival of the Hindus Guru Purnima, which falls on the day of full moon Purnima, was celebrated across the city on Tuesday with full enthusiasm.

All the spiritual aspirants and devotees offered prayers for the well being of their gurus and teachers. Followers of Sai Baba queued up for hours to offer special puja to the spiritual guru.

According to a Panchkula-based priest, Guru Purnima is an auspicious day meant to express gratitude towards a guru one believes in and offering can be in the form of langar. It symbolizes the guru-shishya tradition

As per the reports, on this day, Gayatri Parivar Trust in Chandigarh performed Gayatri Maha Yajna in Pracheen Hanuman Mandir in Sector 32 for the welfare of humanity.

According to Hindu beliefs, a guru comes before god and holds a higher position than that of deity. The day of full moon, Purnima, in the month of Ashadh of the Hindu calendar is traditionally celebrated as Guru Purnima.
