Chevrolet Sail to be launched in hatchback and notchback versions

New Delhi: In an attempt to get back to its earlier market image, American car maker General Motors is on the boards to replenish its Indian Portfolio introducing a new series in hatchback and basic sedan segments. In the Delhi Auto Expo 2012, Chevrolet Sail was much appreciated. Reportedly, the car will be launched in hatchback and sedan designs marking an exit to the Aveo series, whose sales recently went down.
Mr Lowell Paddock, President and Managing Director, General Motors India, said that Sail will hit India hatchback and notchback ranges replacing the Aveo versions. The hatchback version will be named as Sail U-VA.
The car will be equipped with 1.4 litre petrol and 1.3 litre diesel engine along with the MultiJet diesel engine subcontracted from Fiat India. The notchback model is expected to be an apparent rival to mid sized cars like Maruti Swift Dzire, Toyota Etios and Mahindra Varito.
Sail U-VA, which will be launched with a 1400 cc engine, will not have benefits on excise duty levied on its market competitors with 1200 cc engine. Hence it would be a difficult task to set its price.
