Delhi Court sentences, rapist of one-year-old, 32 years' imprisonment

New Delhi: A Delhi High Court has punished a man by 32 years imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a one-year-old girl. The immodest man entered the house of the innocent girl with the intention of thieving and took her away with him.

Sentencing 21-year-old Uday Kumar Yadav, Additional Sessions Judge Kamini Lau asked him to serve seven years of jail for kidnapping the child, life imprisonment (20 years) for raping her, and a five-year term for stealing a mobile phone from the house.

All three sentences would run one after another and the convict should not be given any remission in his sentence unless he spends an actual sentence of 20 years of life term, said the court in the order.

Denying mercy to the convict, the judge said, "He is a predatory pedophile who is a menace to the society and does not spare even a one-year-old child. Leaving him at large would be hazardous to the community."

"What the convict has done is unimaginable, unthinkable and chilling. This is something what even an animal would not do. How can a child so small as one-year arouse the lust of another," the court remarked.

The judge also asked the city government to pay a compensation of Rs.1 lakh to the family of the victim for her welfare and rehabilitation. It also imposed a fine of Rs.70, 000 on Yadav saying that, if realised, the amount should be given to the victim.

Delivering the order, the court also praised the investigating officers who had solved the case on the basis of electronic surveillance and forensic evidence.

On the night of September 24, 2011, Yadav entered the victim's house at Narela in north Delhi to commit a theft, and when he was coming out of the house after stealing a mobile phone, he also picked up the child sleeping with her parents and took her to a nearby park and left her there after raping her.

Next morning, the injured kid was recovered from the park.
