Delhi gangrape: Father reveals ‘Nirbhaya’ name
New Delhi: In a significant development in the Delhi rape saga, the father of the girl has said that he didn’t have any problem if the name and identity of his daughter is revealed.

Girl’s father has given the permission to publish the name of the girl even as government has banned the media from revealing the identity of Amanat, Nirbhaya, Damini, as she had been called so far in campaigns and media reports.

Several media house like Zee News, Mail Today newspaper and Indian Express has already been booked for the offence of revealing the identity of the rape victim.

He asserted that the ordeal of the girl should be an inspiration to the hundreds of girls who go through the rape trauma.

"We want the world to know her real name," the girl's father told a British newspaper.

"My daughter didn't do anything wrong, she died while protecting herself," he added.

"I am proud of her. Revealing her name will give courage to other women who have survived these attacks. They will find strength from my daughter."

The brutal incident had triggered street protests across India and compelled the government to make announcements for stricter laws and arrangements to avert crimes against the women.

Five men have been charged with her gang rape and murder and will appear in a New Delhi court on Monday.
