Mumbai: After the online campaigns went viral over the Delhi gangrape victim incident and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter emerged as a major platform for people to express their outrage, now some Facebook profiles on the name of Damini are doing rounds.
Several profiles of the victim are active on Facebook which are carrying some photographs in her name ‘Damini victim’ and several others. Some profiles are showing a bed-ridden girl in a hospital while some carry photographs of a modest girl who appears to be from a middle-class family.
However, the authencity of the profiles could not be ascertained anyhow. The emergence of such profiles could be seen in different context as the debate on the identity of the rape victims goes on.
In Damini’s case, a demand has been raised to reveal her identity. A school of thought opines that since the brave girl has been instrumental in bringing up the issue of rape crime and crime against women to greater heights, she should be treated as a martyr and a phenomenon in personality.
Several media houses likes Zee Group, India Today group’s Mail Today and Indian Express have already been booked for revealing the identity of the rape victim.
The use of social media as a weapon against crime, corruption and other issues has already reached an unprecedented heights. However, questions rises that a profile in the name of Nirbhaya, Damini or Amanat is justified or not? Delhi gangrape has brought to fore several issues. The Mindset of the people, Sex crime, Approach of the society, Government and everything is in question.
This uproar appears not to die down so easily and the movement against everything unethical and against morality is on anvil while the country goes on with historic protests.
