Earthquake in China, 17 injured

Beijing: China this morning woke up to an earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale. The earthquake jolted Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region at 5.07 am.

According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the epicenter was in a mountainous area along the border of the region's Hejing and Xinyuan counties.

At least 17 people have been injured however no deaths have been reported. Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to populated areas hit by the quake. The south Xinjiang railway was affected but details are not clear as of now, the electricity was cut off in some quake-hit areas.
