Francisco D'Souza, the youngest GE director on board

Bangalore: Cognizant Technology Solutions CEO, Francisco D'Souza is the name for General Electric's independent director on board. Son of a career diplomat, 44 year old D'Souza is set to be the youngest director on board.

GE, 120 year old organization has Alan Lafley (former CEO of Procter & Gamble) and Rochelle B Lazarus (chairman emeritus of Ogilvy & Mather) as its independent CEO's.

D'Souza has added to the growing list of Indian-origin executives taking charge at international corporations.

Som Mittal, president of IT industry, Nasscom expressing his joy said, "It is a matter of pride for all of us and it is well-deserved."

"Frank has demonstrated great skills at Cognizant. I am sure he will add a lot of value to GE," he added.

Having a look at his academic record, Frank obtained his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of East Asia in Japan and then MBA from Carnegie-Mellon University in the US. As a part of his campus recruitment, he was appointed as a management associate by Dun & Bradstreet. In 1993, the 25 year old was sent to India to set up D&B's IT arm, which later became Cognizant.

D'Souza in 1994 co-founded Cognizant and became its chief executive officer in 2007. Cognizant subsequently became one of the fastest growing software firms, with revenues shooting up from $2 billion in 2007 to $7.4 billion (Rs 40,000 crore) in 2012.
