Google doodle celebrates IC inventor Noyce's birthday
Seattle: The doodle on Google's home page on Monday celebrates the birthday of the 'Mayor of Silicon Valley', Robert Noyce. The doodle looks like a chip on which the name of the search engine giant is seen engraved.

Noyce is the inventor of the IC (integrated circuit) that was the sole contributor to the reduction of the then massive sizes of computers.

He is the founder of Intel with Gordon Moore in 1968.

Noyce, also known as Bob, was one of the first to work in the field before the famous technology heartlands in California emerged.

The electronics engineer was also at the head of the firm Fairchild Semiconductor.

His invention of the IC was instrumental in the advancement of technology in the computer filed leading to the invention of the microprocessor.

Noyce died on June 3, 1990 of heart failure at the age of 62.

Last week, Google celebrated the 125th birthday of Mexican artist Diego Rivera, after marking the 176th birthday of Mark Twain.
