India-New Zealand Test series: Is VVS still 'very very special' at 37?

Mumbai: India's 'very very special' player as he is called for his prolific timing, VVS Laxman will be considering himself lucky to have been picked up for the home Test series against the New Zealand that kicks off on August 23 from Hyderabad. The inclusion of this classical batsman has come as surprise for cricket lovers after he failed in 8 Tests against England and Australia.

On the other hand, India's yet another star cricketer Sachin Tendulkar would be seen dressed in whites against the Kiwis after long time. The legendary batsman was last seen taking the guard two months back.

With this announcement India certainly missed Rahul Dravid’s class and spirit with which he has faced the ferocious of the bowlers. However, the BCCI have laid their faith on yet another promising youngster Cheteshwar Pujara including him in the squad.

The 15-member-Test-squad would also see a comeback of long limbed Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma. Sharma would be making a comeback after a recuperation from his ankle inury which was operated.

To everyone's surprise lightening fielder Suresh Raina has also won the hearts of selectors yet again. Despite his previous failures in the longest version of the gentlemen's game, Raina would try and cover loopholes this time that he left uncovered the last time he batted in whites.

Yet another surprise choice of the selectors came in the form of Piyush Chawla who hasn't done reasonably well at the domestic front. His inclusion in the Test squad may raise eyebrows of many across the globe.

With this Virat Kohli, the young Delhi boy who has done wonders with bat in the recent past would now be looking forward to fix his spot permanently in the Test squad too. If anyone could prove out to be the pick of the team it surely would be Virat Kohli in the Test squad.

The Squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Zaheer Khan, Pragyan Ojha, Umesh Yadav, Ajinkya Rahane, Piyush Chawla, Ishant Sharma, Suresh Raina
