India welcomes New year 2012 with parties in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Lucknow

New Delhi: India burst into celebrations as the clock struck 12 and January 1, 2012 stepped in. Fireworks lit up the night sky of many cities while people danced and sang.In the national capital New Delhi, the revelers partied in night clubs. India Gate was a destination for people who welcome the New Year under the illuminated sky. The cold failed to dampen their spirits.
The City of Joy, Kolkata, again lived up to its name. The area around Park Street was bustling with activity.
Mumbai, being at the center of celebrations with a host of New Year bashes, saw a huge gathering at night clubs and other party venues. Even the beaches close to the Marine Drive saw people thronging in to usher in 2012 with hopes of a safe year.
As for Lucknow, Hazratganj was decked up and people were seen enjoying the moment. The enthusiasm of the people here was nothing less than that in New Delhi
