Going by the players’ performance in recent tournaments, selectors have again shown their faith in Leander Paes, Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi. However, change in their pairing with each other just before Olympics can affect their personal performances. Going by their experience, the chances of winning medals are quite high in the tournaments.
Here just look at the past performances of Paes who has won bronze Olympics medal in 1996 at Atlanta Olympics. However, this time he will not be seen playing with his best companion Bhupathi and new pair of Bhupathi – Rohan Bopanna will be seen in the fray. Paes had soured his relationship with Bhupathi and no longer, they are seen playing together and it is a great loss. It is notable that now Peas will be playing with new Vishnu Pradhan who lacks experience of Bhupathi.
Another pairing which saw the differences are of Sania and Bhupathi and both will be playing with new entrants affecting their performances. Again, she is playing the Olympics women's doubles with Rashmi Chakravarthi, with whom played in CWG 2010, winning a bronze.
It is to be noted that India is participating in all four events in the competition and their chances of winning medal are very high in men’s doubles and mixed doubles.
Apart from this the Paes participation in the game, it is going to highlight another feature that he will become the first Indian to play in six Olympics. Expectations are quite high this time too. In the mixed doubles Sania will be playing with Paes and here their winning possibility is also quite high. However, finally it will be depending on their performances in the game. So, one shall keep their fingers crossed till then.
