Movie Review: Jannat 2 is Emraan's act

Rating:

Star-cast: Emraan Hashmi, Randeep Hooda, Esha Gupta
Director: Kunal Deshmukh
Music: Pritam

The much anticipated Emraan Hashmi starrer Jannat 2 came with a lot of promise and somewhat succeeded in its efforts. But it was not the story of the film that took the sheen. It was Emraan himself.

Indeed, the smooch-star's performance as Sonu Dilli only enhances his reputation as an actor. The only man who stands tall beside Emraan's character is ACP Pratap Raghuvanshi, played by Randeep Hooda.

The story is diametrically different from Jannat. If the first one had Emraan play a bookie, here he plays an illegal arms supplier in Delhi. He rents guns to people so that they can bump each other off easily. Hooda wants Emraan to turn informer and this is where the story takes its turn.

Had the film concentrated on their angle, it could have shattered some records at the box office. Going by the audience's response at the end of the first show of the film, it can be said that both the actors managed to hold onto their own in the film and towered over others.

The actress Esha Gupta looks like an unnecessary baggage in the film. She has got nothing to do but play a love interest of Emraan, if that is of any importance. It is indeed strange that a 'doctorni' like her falls in love with a gun dealer turned police informer.

Action dominates and so does the villain played by Manish Chaudhary. Director Kunal Deshmukh has not tried to expose any dark underbelly here but just made a film mixed with a love affair and some lost souls.

The public although have the last take on any film. Going by the response, it must be said that the combo of Emraan and Randeep has been able to pull this one off. Pritam's music is Ok for the time being.
