After girl, now mom infected with flesh-eating bacteria

Greenville: The flesh-eating bacteria that has tormented the life of a young student in the US, has got a new victim.

According to reports, Lana Kuykendall (36) has been hospitalized at Greenville Memorial Hospital with the bacterial infection shortly after giving birth to twins.

Worried family and friends are also upset with the fact that Kuykendall is unable to experience the joy of motherhood.

This is the second such case reported after that of 24-year-old Aimee Copeland, who was infected with the flesh-eating disease when she received a cut after a zip-line accident in Georgia.

She has lost one leg and is still in intensive care. Doctors have said that she risks losing more limbs.

On the other hand, Kuykendall, a Greenville (SC) resident, underwent a blood transfusion after giving birth to the children and since then is in severe pain in her body. Doctors still do not know how Kuykendall contracted the disease.

The bacteria, known as the necrotizing fasciitis, is considered to be a flesh eating one which violently attacks the deepest layers of skin.

Experts reportedly say that the disease is initially overlooked and difficult to treat.
