New Delhi: Nokia today launches its bombastic 41 mega pixel PureView 808 in India, which is all set to give a tough competition not only to Samsung Galaxy SIII and HTC One X but also to cameras like Nikon and Sony.
Nokia India Director and Head of Smart Devices Vipul Mehrotra said, "Nokia has always been known for its imaging legacy. The 808 PureView stands for innovation and with partners like Dolby Laboratories and Carl Zeiss, we have jointly created the world's first super camera phone."
At present, most of the smartphones in the country offer cameras between 5-12 MP ranges. Nokia has now raised its standards to a comparatively higher platform and the company insiders claim a good opening response to. The phone is also cheaper than its market competitors Samsung SIII, priced at INR 43,180 and HTC One for INR 42,999.
The PureView technology is expected to feature in other Nokia products too.
"Nokia is a full line player with focus across product lines. Our aim is to bring innovation at every price point, be it the Asha series or the Lumia devices. We would look at taking the PureView technology, which has taken five years to develop, across categories," he said.
Nokia has provided 12MP as its highest camera capacity in N8. The Asha series has the cheapest phones, while the refined range of phones has Windows based Lumia series.
In past, Nokia has faced a tough competition with Samsung and Apple smartphones. Now the company is boasting of its ties with Microsoft and PureView 808 to regain its market king image.
According to a Gartner study, Samsung ranked first in mobile phone sales with 86.6 million units sold in January-March 2012 quarter. Whereas, Nokia could sell only 83.2 million units.
