New Delhi: With the latest reports coming in, anti media slogans have been discontinued in New Delhi, where Anna Hazare is fasting to protest against the government on the Lokhpal bill as it was not up to the mark. The media persons and supporters of Anna went into a scuffle yesterday night at Jantar Mantar.
The Broadcast Editors' Association (BEA) demanded an apology from Team Anna after media was heckled by Anna's supporters on Monday evening. Arvind Kejriwal apologized on behalf of the whole incident and said that it should not have happened.
"The Broadcast Editors' Association condemned the attack on media by Anna supporters. The BEA believed that this was an interference in the functioning of media. The media is discharging its legitimate duty of covering the agitation in a fair manner. The BEA seeks an immediate apology from Team Anna for the misbehaviour by its supporters," the BEA said in a press release.
Anna, who was rather upset from the incident said that they should not have done it. Anna also warned his supporters that if it is repeated further then he would end his fast which is in its third day.
There were claims by people supporting Anna that media is not covering the agitation properly. With Team Anna member Kumar Vishwas who condemned the incident saying the scuffle was unwarranted, the BEA has stressed on an immediate apology.
Team Anna have clarified their position on the attack on media by the Anna Hazare supporters. "We condemn attack on media. We have not come here to fight with anyone. Please refrain from any kind of misbehavior," Sanjay Singh, a Team Anna member, told. Other members like Kiran Bedi have refused of having any knowledge of the incidence.
