The website launched by Rotary Mtihari Lake Town members to apprise people about reality. According to senior Rotarian in their bid to mobilise support for this cause they have launched this new initiative online to inform people and offer those interested a platform to know more about it.
Orwell was born Eric Arthur Blair in 1903 at Motihari near India's border with Nepal. His father, Richard Blair, worked as an agent of the opium department of the Indian Civil Service during British rule. Orwell spent the first few months of his life, tended to by his mother, Ida, and an Indian maid.
Orwell's ancestral house now lies in dilapidated state and stray cattle graze in its premise. Despite Bihar Government's announcement to give it status of Protected monument few years ago, nothing has changed so far.
The state government showing its concern had announced that it would be preparing a blue print to this crumbling house into museum. It has issued a notification for its protection under the provisions of the Ancient Monuments (Protection) Act, 1976.
Meanwhile district officials maintain that Orwell's birthplace was mainly targeted by encroachers, who have been damaging it. Its small portion has been taken over by the state government and school teacher lives here.
