Rockville: Remember Wolfenstein 3D? The game which had a cult following more than a decade back? Yes, the iconic first-person shooter is back and this time, on your browser. According to reports, Bethesda Softworks released a free, browser-based version of Wolfenstein 3D on Wednesday.
Reports say that most modern browsers like Google Chrome 16, Internet Explorer 9, Firefox 11, and Apple Safari 5 can support the game.
It is playable on the Bethesda site and can be operated with a mouse or a keyboard. The launch is coordinated with the 20th anniversary of the classic game. The game is a remake of the classic Apple II game, Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
The game was not actually '3D' but created an illusion of a 3D environment. It ran in just 320x200 with 256-color VGA graphics.
