Police to be deployed on Sunny Leone's visit to dahi-handi

Mumbai: Jism 2 actor Sunny Leon is expected to visit the forthcoming Dahi Handi fest in Pune on Friday. But the news of porn star visiting a religious function did not go down well for some throats. Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) along with other prominent organizations has raised objections to Sunny's presence at such celebrations.

Akhil Bavdhan (Patilnagar) Dahi Handi Utsav, a mandal located near Ranwara in Bavdhan led by local Nationalist Congress Party worker Kiran Dattatreya Dagade Patil, has put up a hoarding with Leone's picture. The flex also conveys that she will be the chief guest at the fest. A few other organizations under Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation also claim to invite the actress for the celebrations.

However, Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) feel that inviting a porn star to a religious function is absolutely against Indian culture. In order to stop Sunny from visiting, a BJYM senior member met social security branch officer of the city police and said that she should be prohibited to attend the upcoming fest.

Bhanupratap Barge, Social Security branch inspector said, "After receiving a memorandum from BJYM, we have apprised the Pune police special branch."

Deputy Commissioner of police (special branch) Mahadev Tambade said, "The BJYM members had approached us insisting that we prevent Sunny from coming to Pune and participating in the dahi handi celebrations. However, we cannot take such steps."

"In order to avoid any undue incident during the celebrations, we have decided to make stringent security arrangements at various places where she may visit. We have put on alert especially the Bhosari police station and other areas in Zone III and arranged to provide them additional reinforcements," he added.
