Pranab at Raj Ghat | Oath ceremony today

New Delhi: President-elect Pranab Mukherjee payed homage to the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, here at Raj Ghat ahead of taking oath as the 13th President of India. Further he payed homage at Veer Bhumi and Shakti Sthal which are memorials of Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi respectively.

Pranab Mukherjee who won the presidential election on July 22 will take oath at the central hall of the parliament where the ceremony which is scheduled to begin at 11:30 am, will be attended by Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Union Ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers and a host of other important dignitaries. One of the most acknowledged guest will be the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has agreed to show up once Mukherjee was elected as the President.

The security will be on toes as the ceremony progresses with The Indian Air Force (IAF) activating its air defence (AD) shield in and around the capital to thwart any threat to the swearing-in ceremony of the supreme commander of the armed forces, that's not all OSA-AK the surface-to-air missile have been deployed in the NCR, fighter jets like Sukhoi-30MKIs and MiG-21 'Bisons' will now be put on a stand-by at nearby airbases.

A 21 gun-salute will be given to Mukherjee once he takes over as the President and further his convoy will leave for Rashtrapati Bhawan with the current President Pratibha Patil.
