New Delhi: Pranab Mujherjee has been sworn in as the 13th President of India, Mukherjee who won the Presidential election on July 22 will take over from Pratibha Patil who was the 12th President of the country.
The oath was administered by Chief Justice Of India, SH Kapadia in the central hall of the parliament of India. He was given a 21-gun salute after taking the oath as the President. Several esteemed dignitaries which include Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Union Ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers applauded as he took charge as the first citizen of the country.
Mukherjee addressing the audience said that he will work for poor and will strive hard to stop any act of terrorism, he said that he will work for "Equality of all, gender of equity but most of all, I will bring economic equity as the President of India."
Pranab specially mentioned that he will protect and defend the Constitution of India in the best of his capabilities. Pranab who is now the 13th President of India will leave along with Pratibha Patil for Rashtrapati Bhawan.
