Mumbai: Rajesh Khanna created national stir when he entered Bollywood in 1960 and shared a great on-screen chemistry with his female co-stars.

Khanna, the first superstar of India was the quintessential romantic hero of Bollywood. He sparked frenzy never seen before and never since, not even by the likes of Amitabh Bachchan.

Though Rajesh acted with various actresses but his magical chemistry with Sharmila Tagore, Mumtaz, Hema Malini, Asha Parekh and Tina Munim worked as miracles for the movies. He gave numerous hits with these ladies.

In 1969 Rajesh worked in Aaradhna and he was teamed up with Sharmila Tagore. The duos magic and songs of the movie "Roop Tera Mastana", "Mere Sapno Ki Rani" and "Kora Kagaz Tha Ye Mann Mera" made the movie superhit. Through Aradhana he rose to "instant national fame" and film critics referred to him as the first superstar of India.

On the other hand, Sharmila Tagore won her first Filmfare Best Actress Award for this movie. Later Rajesh and the actress gave hits like Safar, Avishkaar and Amar Prem.
