Mumbai: One of the most talented batsmen Rohit Sharma will be captaining the Mumbai Ranji team in upcoming second match against defending champions Rajasthan. The match will begin from November 9 in Jaipur. He got the honour to captain the side as skipper Ajit Agarkar is suffering from a calf injury.
Agarkar was chosen as skipper for the first four matches. Mumbai team is going to suffer a double blow as far as far as bowling department is concerned, because apart from Agarkar their senior pace bowler Zaheer Khan also will not be available for the second match.
Mumbai's senior most player and last match's centurion Sachin Tendulkar is also going to get unavailable for the next match, as he along with Zaheer Khan, have been selected for the upcoming Test series against the visiting England team. The series is to take place from November 15.
Mumbai Cricket Association's joint secretary Nitin Dalal said, "Agarkar has suffered a minor calf injury during the match against Railways and has been advised to rest for few days. That's why he has been ruled out of the second Ranji trophy match against Rajasthan."
"He (Ajit Agarkar) will be available for the other matches after this one," He added.
Sachin, Zaheer and Agarkar will be replaced by Kshemal Waingankar, Shardul Thakur and Hiken Shah respectively.
Ajinkya Rahane, who scored a century in the first innings and a half-century in the second has also been selected in the Indian squad and will not play against Rajasthan. He has been replaced by Akhil Herwadkar.
