Mumbai: Actor Salman Khan will soon be seen running for a half marathon. The actor is participating in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police troops in Delhi. The 21 km run will take place on October 7 starting from Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium and around 15,000 people and 5,000 children are likely to participate. But for this, he will be including a difficult journey, just to participate in the event.
On enclosing actor’s route of journey, a public relation officer, Deepak Pandey, says, “Salman will be coming to Delhi on October 6, a night before the marathon. He's flying down in a private charter plane from Mumbai. He'll travel by road from Satara, a place where he is scheduled to shoot at that time, which is about 300kms away from Mumbai, and reach Mumbai, from where he'll fly to Delhi.
After the marathon, he will again take his flight from Delhi to Mumbai and again travel by road back to Satara. So in all, he will be travelling by road an extra 600kms, just to come and participate in the run, and that too, free of cost. He is doing all this on his own, because he wants to do this for the country.”
Meanwhile, Pandey also agrees that that there were few more Bollywood people who approached for the same event but it was only Salman who happily agreed without any conditions. He further comments, “We had approached few other celebrities to become our brand ambassador. While we did get a positive response from all, there were certain limitations. Some had a time constraint, while some had an issue with running with the contestants. Salman was the only one who readily agreed, without any questions. In fact, he cancelled his shoots for that day and said that he will be available for as long as we want him.”
ITBP had approached Salman Khan in August with a proposal to turn out to be their brand ambassador on the occasion of 50th anniversary of ITBP.
The actor also shot a small video to encourage the youth of the nation to participate in the half marathon for the country. "Salman flew down from Mumbai to shoot his appeal for the marathon, on his own expenses and even interacted with the ITBP officers and jawans. At the event, apart from participating in the run, Salman will also motivate the youth to join the security forces," adds Pandey.
