Samsung aims big chunk with launch of Galaxy S3 in India

New Delhi: On Thursday, May 31, Samsung Electronics rolled in its much-awaited smartphone Galaxy S III in the Indian market and revealed that the company targets 60 percent share in the Indian smartphone market in 2012.

Ranjit Yadav, India Head (Mobile and IT), Samsung told reporters, “According to third party data, we have almost 46 percent share in the Indian smartphone market. We are confident of increasing this to 60 percent this year.”

The Indian smartphone market is expected to grow to about 18 million units in 2012. Apart from Galaxy S III, Samsung has launched a range of over a dozen smartphones in the country this year including Galaxy Y Duos and Galaxy Y Pro Duos.

Galaxy S III is priced at Rs 43,180 and is powered by Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich. It has an 8 megapixel camera along with a zero-lag shutter speed, which allows users capture moving objects without delay.

“Galaxy S III is inspired by nature and human capabilities. It is effortlessly smart and intuitively simple by design,” BD Park, president and chief executive officer, South West Asia said.
