New Delhi: Serving Vice-President of India filed his candidature documents in view to sustain on the post. Ansari filed papers in the presence of senior UPA (United Progressive Alliance) leaders, including the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Congress president Sonia Gandhi was also present while the nomination was being filed.
The files containing the candidature documents were handed over to TK Vishwanathan, Secretary General, Lok Sabha.
The vice presidential polls would take place on August 7 this year.
Uttar Pradesh's ex chief minister and Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, Nationalist Congress Party's Sharad Pawar, Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, Bahujan Samaj Party's Satish Mishra, National Conference’s Farooq Abdullah, DMK's TR Baalu and Ram Vilas Paswan from Lok Jan Shakti Party were present during the nomination amongst others.
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi also joined the candidature filing.
By the look of it, CPI is looks in groove to support the candidature of Hamid Ansari for the vice president's post.
The party would announce its decision over the issue after a meeting of its central secretariat to be held in Delhi on Wednesday.
Fingers have also been kept cross for Mamata Banerjee, who is alleged to support Ansari after Pranab Mukherjee.
