Basel: India’s Badminton ace Parupalli Kashyap faced a shocking loss against Wei Feng Chong in the third round of the $125,000 Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold in Basel on Thursday.
Kashyap, on the day he reached his career-best ranking of World No.7, went down to Malaysian ninth seed Wei Feng Chong 21-18, 7-21, 16-21 in 55 minutes at St. Jakobshalle in the tier three tournament.
The fifth seed had also lost his previous two meetings against the World No.18 Malaysian. However, their last encounter was three years back in 2010.
However, Parupalli Kashyap jumped two places in men’s singles to reach a career-best No.7 in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on Thursday.
On the other hand, leading the Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal, who overcame a stiff challenge from French Sashina Vignes Waran in her first round women’s singles tie in the tier three tournament.
The World No.3 won 13-21, 21-15, 21-12 in 47 minutes at St. Jakobshalle to take a 2-0 lead in career meetings over the World No.40 French girl.
