New Delhi: In India, it is easy to own a car but people think twice while taking it on road! The continuous soar in the fuel prices has forced people in the country to keep their hands tight when it comes to steering. Keeping this mind, the Indian car manufacturer giant TATA has come up with its latest unique edition named as MEGAPIXEL.
To launch its unique variant, Tata Motors has tied up with Luxembourg based company Motor Development International (MDI). The two developed an engine technology that will use compressed air as a fuel.
In 2007 Tata licensed MDI's technology in a bid to produce and sell compressed air cars in India. Tata has now released a statement that, although no firm time frame is given, suggests that the project is heading in the right direction.
As per reports Tata says that the first proof of the technical concept phase of the program is now complete with the compressed air engine concept having been demonstrated in two Tata Motors vehicles.
The second phase includes the completing detailed development of the compressed air engine into specific vehicle and stationary applications are now underway.
Tata Megapixel is a new four-seater city-smart global range extended electric vehicle (REEV) concept for the performance-seeking and environment-conscious motorist anywhere in the world. Combining a lithium ion phosphate battery and an on-board petrol engine generator for recharging on the move, the Tata Megapixel offers a range of up to 900 km (with a single tank of fuel), path-breaking CO2 emission of just 22 gm / km and fuel economy of 100 km / litre (under battery only power).
