Tom Cruise completes half century

Los Angeles: American actor and producer Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, more popularly known as Tom Cruise turns 50 today. The actor was born in Syracuse, New York. He was passionate for football as a kid but ironically he wanted to become a Catholic priest after attending a Franciscan seminary in Cincinnati.

Tom has had a brilliant Hollywood career, he won three Golden Globe Awards and was nominated for three Academy Awards. He made his debut through the film Endless Love, however, Taps in 1981 was the first film that brought him recognition. Risky Business featured him in the lead for the first time. The actor is also known for his association with Church of Scientology.

Cruise established Cruise/Wagner Productions in 1993 along with his talent agent Paula Wagner. Mission: Impossible was his first venture as a producer. Edward Jay, Hollywood economist says that Tom is one of the very few producers who can guarantee the success of a film.

The actor married Mimi Rogers in 1987 and they separated in February 1990 after three. Tom then married actress Nicole Kidman in December 1990, the couple however divorced in 2001. He was also linked with Vanilla Sky co-star Penelope Cruz. He dated actress Katie Holmes for a year in 2005 and married her in November 2006.

Their relationship is now going through a bad patch. Holmes has filed a divorce on June 29 and has reportedly stopped wearing her wedding ring since then. We wonder, how will Tom celebrate his day?
