Turtle couple divorces after 115 years of married life

Vienna: An old turtle couple, who are reported to live together for past 115 years, now can't stand each other any more. Consequently, world’s oldest animal marriage came to an end.

Zoo boss Helga Happ said, "For no reason that anyone can discover they seem to have fallen out. They just can't stand each other."

The couple lived together in Basel Zoo in Switzerland. Later, they were moved to Klagenfurt zoo and there the duo spent 36 years together.

Bibi, the female counterpart was the first to loose interest. Zoo staff had to separate the two as she started attacking Poldi. Her anger was so potent that she even bit out pieces from Poldi’s shell. Animal experts tried reconciliation with a hope that the couple might unite again, but nothing has worked so far.

Happ said, "We have staff talking to and trying to engage the two in interacting, and we hope that they might find their harmony again."

They were fed aphrodisiacs and made to play interactive games but there were no signs of patch up. Happ mentioned that this kind of separation is very rare in case of animal couples who have lived together for so long.
