New Delhi: UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) has served a notification which read that the Civil Services (Mains) examination has been scheduled for November or December 2013. Eligible candidates will be allowed to fill their applications by August or September this year.
UPSC also has dropped the compulsory English language paper from the Civil Services Mains Examination. The commission has set the English language papers of qualifying nature and hence the marks would not be counted for ranking.
India's most prestigious examinations which give away IAS, IPS and IFS officers to country are conducted by the UPSC.
UPSC's notification came after the uproar in parliament for giving an added weightage to English language.
UPSC said, "The papers on Indian languages and English will be of matriculation or equivalent standard and will be of qualifying nature only. The marks obtained in these papers will not be counted for ranking."
Meanwhile, the last date for filling online applications is April 4, 2013 whereas the Civil Services (mains) will be held in August/September.
