VHP demands stern action against 'Beef festival' organisers

New Delhi: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) filed a police complaint against the organisers of the Beef festival here in New Delhi on Thursday. The Parishad demanded the arrest of those organising a Beef Festival saying that the proposed event had hurt Hindu sentiments.

The VHP said it filed a case under the Indian Penal Code against students and staff members organising the festival at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNJ).

A VHP delegation also called on JNU Vice Chancellor Sudhir Kumar Sopory and sought "stern action" against the organisers.

The concerned students, it said, should be barred from fighting elections and also ousted from the university, a VHP statement said.

A VHP leader warned that if JNU did not prevent the festival, it would "face the music".
