New Delhi: Boxer Ram Singh confesses purchasing drug from dealer Anoop Singh Kahlon. In his statement he mentioned another boxer Vijendra Singh's name and said that both of them had bought the drug.
However, Ram claims that either of them are not habitual users. He said that the duo met the dealer 3-4 times since December last year.
Olympic medalist Vijender Singh on Friday was alleged of being linked to a Rs 130 crore heroin haul along with national level boxer Ram Singh. Ram was detained by Punjab Poilce and interrogated for hours.
However, Vijendra has denied any kind of links with dealer Anoop. The alleged drug lord is accused of storing 26 kg of heroin in an apartment on the outskirts of Chandigarh. He was nabbed by police on March 3 and he said that he knew both the boxers.
Boxer's connection to this drug haul came into limelight when Vijendra's Ford Endeavour keys were found in Kahlon's Zirakpur residence. The vehicle was allegedly driven to the apartment by Ram.
Senior superintendent of police Hardayal singh said, "We've not yet established the role of either Vijender or Ram Singh. But we can confirm that both Vijender and Ram knew Kahlon and his accomplice, Rocky. We have evidence of this, but we cannot disclose this now".
Ludhiana DIG MH Farooqui in his statement said, "Many sportspersons have figured in drug rackets in the past. In this racket, too, some sportspersons are involved. Even Kahlon is a former shot putter."
Vijender, who himself happens to be a DSP rank officer with Haryana police shrugged all the claims of his connection to the drug dealer. He said, "I do not know the person in question and I am not involved with him in anyway. I may have met him but don't know him personally or directly."
As of now, four people including Kahlon have been nabbed in the case.
