It is to be known that these stars show the reputation of the teams. India got its first star when they won the 1983 ODI World Cup, the second one came in 2007 Twenty20 WC and last one came in 2011 ODI WC.
International Cricket Council (ICC) allowed the WC winning teams to put on a star on the jersey authorised by their Cricketing Board. As the number of WCs wins increases the number of stars. The first two WCs were won by West Indies and got two stars respectively. In 1983, they went to England to complete the hat-trick of WC wins but failed, as then considered as under-dogs, Kapil Dev's, team India won their first one.
It took 24 years after 1983 to win the next WC. During this period India once reached the final of WC in 2003 but lost to Australia. Australia is the only team which has completed the hat-trick of WC wins and has won it four times, in 1987, 1999, 2003 and 2007.
Among the teams playing in T20 WC Australia's jersey is containing four stars, India containing 3 stars, West Indies and Pakistan are containing 2 stars, Sri Lanka and England are containing 1 star each.
However, it would be very interesting to see who wins the ongoing WC. The hopes are alive that India will increase one more star to their jersey and will equalise it to Australia.
