Wishing Mike Tyson on his 46th birthday!

Mike Tyson is a name well known in boxing arena. He is the second most known athlete in field of boxing after Muhammad Ali. Michael Gerard Tyson aka Malik Abdul Aziz (post his religious conversion to Islam) was born on June 30, 1966 in Brooklyn, New York City. Considered as one of the most brutal boxers and the most feared one of his times, he was nick named as Iron Mike, Kid Dynamite and also was called as the “baddest man on the planet”.

He was title holder for the ‘World Boxing Council’, ‘World Boxing Association’ and ‘International Boxing Federation’ heavyweight titles at just 20 years, 4 months and 22 days old. Tyson won his first 19 professional bouts by knockout, with 12 of them occurring in the first round. He was also the first heavyweight boxer to simultaneously hold the WBA, WBC and IBF titles. His power of fist can well be recognized by an occurring in his career where he knocked out Michael Spinks in the first 91 seconds of the fight.

In 1992 however, these his roller-coaster ride of emphatic golden period was rammed down by an event where Tyson was convicted of raping Desiree Washington, for which he was sentenced to six years in prison but was released after serving three years. After his release, he converted to Islam and changed his name. He also got engaged in a series of comeback fights. In 1996, Tyson won back the WBC and WBA titles by knockout. Out of the total 50 wins, he has seen 44 victories by knock outs.

Another major episode because of which Tyson is remembered is when he was disqualified for biting off a part of ear of Evander Holyfield’s ear in 1997 rematch of a match that took place in November 1996 as it ended up by an 11th round TKO.

Tyson declared bankruptcy in 2003, despite having received over US$30 million for several of his fights and $300 million during his career. He retired from professional boxing in 2006 after he was knocked out in consecutive matches. He has been inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame.
