World Cup T20: India somehow beat robust Afghanistan by 23 runs

Colombo: It was a tough one for India initially at the R Premadasa stadium in Colombo where Afghanistan fought their hearts out but just fell short by 23 runs against the star studded Indian team.

Afghanistan had won the toss and asked India to bat first with India making 159/5 in 20 overs. The Indian openers Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir falling prey to Afghans resonance. The Afghanistan's bowling attack was of high quality as compared to their batting.

Despite quick removal of Gambhir and Sehwag, Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina held their nerves and took India to a respectable total with MS Dhoni giving finishing touches to the game and taking India beyond the 150 mark.

In Afghanistan's reply, they started off things really well but couldn't capitalise on it. The Afghan team fell like pack of cards after the openers Mohammad Shahzad (18) and Nawroz Mangal (22). However, Mohammad Nabi showed some resistance with his quick fire 31 as Afghanistan managed to get 136/10 in 19.3 overs.

If we talk of India's bowling attack, then Yuvraj Singh and L Balaji stand out with their 3 wickets a piece haul.
R Ashwin picked up 2 whereas Irfan Pathan took 1 wicket. India's most experienced bowling spearhead Zaheer Khan was wicket-less for yet another time.

Virat Kohli was conferred the Man of the Match award for his high quality fifty.
