However, the day got its official recognition in 1982 when French music and dance director Maurice Fleuret followed Cohen's idea. Since then, June 21 is celebrated as World Music Day worldwide.
On this day, various musicians perform in streets, squares and public places. The slogan Faites de la musique, which means make music, is used to spread the message amongst the masses.
An open platform for musicians across the globe, World Music Day provides an opportunity to everyone who wishes to perform. Every music lover is free to show his talent on this day. Musicians from different genre share a common stage and follow two basic rules of the day. First, the concerts are free to the public and all the performers spare their time without any charges.
The day is celebrated in over 100 countries of the world. In India, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Shillong have geared up for the musical celebration.
