10 coaches of Jhelum Express train derails, three injured

Ludinana: There is a mere escape for the passenger of Jhelum Express train as 10 of its coaches derailed in Punjab’s Ludhiana district early morning which left several people injured in the incident.

The Indian Railway Ministry official tweet, all the injured persons have been sent for treatment to Ludhiyana’s Civil hospital.

The incident took place at around 3:10 am, when the train consist of 24 coaches got derailed from about 125km from Chandigarh.

A major tragedy was averted as the train which was enroute to Pune from Jammu Tawi derailed before the Sutlej river bridge.

The Railway official said, “11078 (Jhelum Express) derailed on approach to river Sutlej bridge Phillaur-Ladowal sec NR/FZR division. No casualty and only three minor injuries were reported,”

The officials further told about that, “Derailed coaches PC, B5, S1, S2, S3, S4, S5, S7 and S8. No casualties have been reported and all the injured were sent to Civil hospital Ludhiyana.

The spokesman said, “Some train have been cancelled an diverted. The northern Railways will provide a list of the affected trains. The accident took place in the area of Ferozepur division.”

The trains that have been canceled are train number 14682 Jalandhar-New Delhi Intercity, 12460 Amristsar-New Delhi Intercity, 12054 Amritsar-Haridwar Janshatabdi and 12242 Amritsar-Chandigarh Superfast.

The relief team has reached the incident place and rescue work has been started.
