10-year-old rape survivor gives birth to a girl

Chandigarh: The 10-year-old rape victim, whose abortion plea was rejected by the SC, delivered a baby through C-section. The condition of the girl is stable.

According to the sources, the infant’s weight is 2.2 kg and it has been admitted to neo natal ICU.

Though, it was a high risk pregnancy but everything gone according to plan. There was a highly skillful team involved in the whole procedure, consisting of three gynaecologists, an anaesthetist, a neonatologist and a paediatrician.

Chandigarh administration borne the treatment expenses of the rape victim.

The girl was raped continuously by her uncle for several months and the crime came to light when the victim was taken to hospital on complaining of stomach ache last month.

Last month, the Supreme Court had dismissed a plea seeking its nod for terminating the 32-week-old pregnancy of the rape survivor after taking into consideration medical report of the girl.
