5.9-magnitude earthquake shakes Philippines

Philippines: According to the information given through a survey, an earthquake measuring 5.9 magnitudes on the Richter scale shoved central Philippines today without any damage or causalities reported.

As per the reports, the quake was located 13.3 km west of Burauen in Leyte province. The quake had a depth of 12 km at the epicentre, but did not trigger a tsunami warning.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said that a 6.5-magnitude earthquake killed a 19-year-old girl in Ormoc and a 40-year-old man in Kananga.

The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” a region of high seismic and volcanic activity where some 7,000 tremors, mostly mild, are felt around the year.
